The Shura Council discusses the role of SCMCHA in facilitating the work of organizations.
The Shura Council held a meeting today chaired by head of Council Mohamed Hussein Al-Eidros, which included the Committee of Rights and Freedoms and Civil Society Organizations of the Shura Council with the Acting Head of the Planning and Programs Department of the Supreme Council for The Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation Eng . Zaid Mutahar.
The meeting, which was attended by Vice President of the Shura Council Mohammed Nasser Al-Bakhiti, and the directors of the instruction Center, organizations, head of follow-up and evaluation in the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Ibrahim al-Houthi, Turki Jamil and Khaled al-Habsi, discussed the role of the council of Humanitarian Affairs in facilitating the work of international and local organization , and his contribution to the face of the coronavirus.
At the meeting, the Speaker of the Shura Council stressed the importance of SCMCHA’s role in strengthening and coordination with international organizations and civil society organizations to provide the needs of health quarantine centers at land ports.
He pointed to the seriousness of the problem of Saudi Arabia deporting a number of Yemenis in the past days, which put pressure on land ports in order to increase the chances of the spread of the coronavirus in our countr, He dded that this is not surprising from the Saudi regime, which has been leading an aggression against Yemen for five years, in which the blood of the Yemenis has been desecrated.
He stressed the importance of role of representatives of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in visiting prisons to take health measures to confront the coronavirus.
The vice-chairman of the Shura Council, Al-Bakhiti, stressed the integration of official and popular efforts and raising the level of awareness among citizens through education and health media.
He called on citizens to abide by precautionary measures to prevent the coronavirus pandemic, in the public interest.
The chairman of the Committee on Rights and Freedoms and civil society organizations of the Shura Council Yahya Mohammed Al-Kahlani and members of the committee praised the efforts of the Supreme Council to manage and coordinate humanitarian affairs and international cooperation by activating joint roles with local and foreign authorities.
They stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the Shura Council and the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, to overcome the difficulties facing the work of the Humanitarian Affairs Council.
The Chairman and members of the Committee on Rights and Freedoms called on international organizations primarily WHO and UNICEF to assist the government sector and its plan to respond to any emergency related to the Corona epidemic.
For his part, the Acting Head of Planning and Programs in the Supreme Council for The Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reviewed the most important programs implemented by the Council during the past year such as supervision, guidance of organizations, facilitating their work and working to overcome obstacles caused by lack coordination between the Government and aid organizations.
He stressed the importance of international organizations’ role in providing sustainable assistance that provides income to vulnerable families, enabling them to be self-reliant rather than limited and temporary.
He also outlined the Supreme Council’s plan for humanitarian and development needs 2020, which was presented to donors and international organizations working in Yemen to include humanitarian response plans for 2020.
He addressed the difficulties facing the work of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the lack of an executive regulation. He pointed out that a number of international organizations are slow in fulfilling their obligations to provide the necessary medical and shelteration supplies for quarantine centers in land ports.
The meeting concluded that the Supreme Council will provide the Shura Council with data and informations that help the Committee of Rights and Freedoms and civil society organizations of the Shura Council in preparing its report on the humanitarian situation in Yemen and in order to serve to overcome the challenges facing the Coordinating Council Humanitarian affairs in these exceptional circumstances.
The meeting also approved that the health, rights and freedoms committees and civil society organizations of the Shura Council should be in a permanent meeting to follow up on developments and new of the Corona epidemic as well as coordinating and communicating with the relevant authorities in this regard.
