Manaa : Donors’ conference failed and the aggression countries determined the disbursement of humanitarian grants.

The head of the International Cooperation Department of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Manaa Al Asel considered the donor conference that was held in Riyadh as an international fall of shameful positions.

Al-Asal indicated that the United Nations spoke at the conference about the humanitarian crisis in Yemen that millions of affected people suffer of as well as millions of children suffer of malnutrition. instead referring to the causer of this humanitarian crisis, UN thanked them that made Yemeni people lost hope of UN.

Al-Asal confirmed in statements to Al-Ahd news site that the conference failed, as the conference was held in a country leading the aggression against Yemen, as well as  a failure of  bringing  the minimum amount of aid compared to previous years and compared to what the United Nations has identified.

Regarding the United Nations announcement that most relief projects in Yemen were closed, Al-Asal commented that the United Nations’ suspension of 30 programs from 41 came in line with the statements of the American administration that announced that it would reduce humanitarian aid to Yemen.

“At a time when humanitarian assistance must increase, as the world mobilizes to confront the COVID19 pandemic, one of the measures requires an increase in the amount of food baskets for citizens.” But what happened is the opposite. Since April, the World Food Program has reduced half of its aid, and the disbursement of incentives for ten thousand health workers has been suspended, one week after the first case of coronavirus was announced in Yemen.” Al Asel said

Manaa, considered that the sums announced at the conference are just numbers that the Yemeni people will get and unfortunately go to operating expenses and wages for the benefit of the organizations.

Al Asel  asks: What are the foundations and references according to which the need has been identified with less than previous years, despite the exacerbation of the crisis and the occurrence of the Corona pandemic, which is supposed to increase the need?!!!

Al-Asal explained that the aggression alliance countries are the ones that determine the organizations to disburse grants, which the Yemeni citizen does not see any positive results of these humanitarian projects.

Al-Asal stated that Al-Drahami district suffers from a suffocating siege, some of whose inhabitants were forced to eat leaves, and it is assumed that they have priority for food, water, medicine and shelter projects

Instead of the organizations providing aid to this besieged district, they implement activities that do not meet their needs, such as teaching hairdressers, henna, incense, or activities of so-called psychological support or other training activities

Al-Asal affirmed that the United Nations is not transparent because it is aware that if it deals with transparency in this matter, the Yemeni and international community will be shocked by the real amount of aid reaching the Yemenis compared to what is wasted of these funds.

Al-Asal called on the United Nations and the donors that  the grants should not be conditional, and that they should be in accordance with humanitarian standards aimed at saving lives away from the politicization of humanitarian work where  the sums  that will reach the affected people are clear to everyone.
