Tawoos, Gresley and Awad visit the crime scene of temporary detention center in Sa’ada.
The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdulmohsen Tawoos, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, William David Gresley, visited today the crime scene of the aggression coalition in the temporary detention center in Sa’da.
Tawoos and Gresley, in presence of the governor of Saada, Muhammad Jaber Awad, were briefed on the conditions of the wounded and injured in the Republican General Hospital in the governorate.
During the visit, Tawoos noted to the visit of the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen to the scene of the crime of the pretrial prison in Sa’da, responding to the call, informing him of the scale of the disaster, carrying out his humanitarian duty towards this crime and providing the necessary assistance to the wounded and injured.
Tawoos appreciated Gresley’s visit and condemnation of the heinous crime, calling on the United Nations to work to stop the aggression and siege.
Tawoos described the crime committed by the aggression against the inmates in detenation in Sa’ada as an awful crime.
He indicated that the detenation center was visited by OCHA and ICRC on December 28, and everyone knows that the prison is for civil cases.
He explained that the governorate’s hospitals are full of wounded in light of the low health services due to the aggression and the siege, stressing that America stands directly behind the continuation of the aggression and siege, and the persistence in committing massacres against the Yemeni people.
In turn , the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen renewed his condemnation of the attacks launched by the coalition against civilians.
He considered these crimes unacceptable in international law.
“It is important to see them, so that pressure measures are put on those who do this.” he said
He added, “We have expressed, and we still do, our concern about the crime of targeting the inmates of the detenation in Sa’da, and the bombing that caused the interruption of internet service, and we will work to lift the attacks that may affect civilians, and neutralize some positions in coordination with all parties.”
“It is wrong to target the inmates of the prison, and there should not be any civilian casualties, whether there is neutralization or not,” he added.
He indicated that he will do his work to treat the victims, and will work to restore the damaged water tank in the governorate, and there are projects in this aspect.
Gresley said: “His visit today will have a positive impact to support the victims with medical and therapeutic materials they need, and there will be support for the damaged water project,” indicating that the United Nations will work to play its role in detaining oil derivatives ships and preventing them from entering.
He added: “We informed a number of members of the Security Council about the problem of fuel and the prevention of its entry to the port of Hodeidah, as the worst fuel crisis I have seen since I came to Yemen.”
For his part, the governor appreciated the visit of the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen to the scene of the crime of aggression and to inform him of the scale of the disaster, as well as his condemnation of the heinous crime, targeting the Tulum water field in the city, and his call to neutralize civilian facilities.
He called on the United Nations to take responsibility for the crimes and violations committed by the aggression, and what is happening in Saada Governorate in particular.
They were accompanied during the visit by the Governorate’s Undersecretary for Humanitarian Affairs, Muhammad Hussein Baydan, the head of the Republican General Hospital Authority in Sa’da, Dr. Ismail Al-Warfi, and a number of officials.
